THE NEWBORN GUIDE

What to Pack in your Baby Changing Bag

Days out can look a little different with a newborn in tow. What once was a quick trip to the shops or a lunch date with friends is now a juggling act of prior planning and inventory checking. Chances are you’ve already picked out your bag of choice — if not, you’ll find lots of inspiration in our guide to the best baby changing bags.

Now it’s time to think about what’s going to go in it. With plenty of compartments to fill and lots to fill them with, it’s no wonder that what to pack in a changing bag is one of the most Googled parenting questions. From muslins to teethers and bibs to bottles, our changing bag essentials are here to make parenting on the go that little bit easier.

The Changing Bag

First things first: a changing bag. We've got lots of styles on offer with features to make parenting on the go a little easier.

A Soft Touch

No items will work harder in your changing bag than a muslin cloth, a spare babygrow and their favourite toy.

The Changing-Bag Heroes

Muslins are a must-have in every baby changing bag, and these multi-tasking squares of cotton will be a regular feature in your baby’s routine. So, having a few stowed away will ensure you’re covered throughout the day, especially whilst on the move. Talking of spills, the next thing you'll want to consider is a change of clothes. There’s plenty of choice when shopping for babygrows and vests, and they are perfect for throwing in your changing bag if your baby has a little leak or is being particularly dribbly. Our adorable scratch mittens are also great to have within easy reach, and they won't take up any space in your already overflowing bag.

Feeding on the Go

A baby with a full tummy is a happy one. Just remember to take care of yourself too — parenting can be thirsty work.

Mealtime Moments

Life with a little one will revolve around their next mealtime, so prepping your changing bag with plenty of food is key. When storing milk on the move, the general rule of thumb is that it should be consumed within two hours at room temperature or four hours if stored in an insulated cool bag or bottle holder. Many of our changing bags actually come with these included, so that's one less thing to tick off your newborn checklist. Look to the likes of BOSS for handy bottle and dummy sets, and Swedish brand Elodie for a chic statement piece you won’t want to hide away in your bag for long. They all come with soft silicone teats and they’re also BPA-free, meaning no nasty chemicals and peace of mind for you whilst feeding.

Baby's First Bib

That’s the feeding accessories sorted, now to catch those inevitable spills with our stylish collection of bib and aprons.

Catching Crumbs

It goes without saying, feeding an infant on the go produces quite the mess. And the last thing you want is their beautiful new outfit getting spoilt by baby food. As you’ll already know, bibs really do come in all shapes, sizes and fabrics. The eco-conscious will have their eye on this organic cotton number from Pippi, whilst practicality is best served with maximum coverage, thanks to CeLaVi’s wipe-clean aprons. And bibs don’t get much cuter than Elodie’s; you’ll want a trunkful of these sweet elephant designs, which also come with a useful pouch to catch falling food — adorable and practical, just how we like it.

Let’s Play

From cute teethers to sensory books, pack your bag with toys to keep your little one entertained.

Toys from A to B

When packing your baby bag, it can be easy to get distracted by the practicalities of parenting: changing nappies, feeding, nap time. But no outing would be complete without the in-pram entertainment to have your tiny one smiling and giggling all the way to your destination. Rainbow Designs' sensory books are perfect for keeping baby occupied, with vivid colours, cute characters and crackly textures to engage them on every page. If they’re at the teething stage, Sophie la Girafe also deserves a mention. A saviour for many a parent, the brand’s range includes chewable toys and teethers to help soothe sore gums.
