The World of Bobo Choses

Every now and then, a brand comes along that brings out the kid in us all. Bobo Choses is one of those brands, and we couldn’t be more delighted to welcome them to the Childrensalon family. Today, we’re joined by Adriana Esperalba, founder and creative director, and mum to mini adventurers Teo and Momo, to talk about the collection and how, in the Bobo universe, kids make the rules.

Bobo Choses burst onto the scene in 2008 with big ideas for little ones’ clothing. Since then, the Spanish brand, loved for its free-spirited aesthetic, has been busy creating fashion for kids that speaks their language — the whole collection is packed with whimsical motifs and colour pairings that are anything but grown-up. “I sought a new style of kidswear that was neither overly childish nor an imitation of adult fashion,” says Adriana. “That restlessness essentially led to the creation of Bobo Choses.” And what better venue to spark imaginations than an old toy factory? Found just outside of Barcelona, it is here that Adriana and a small but mighty team of creatives brings the Bobo Choses magic to life. “Every day is unique at Bobo Choses,” she says. “Just as we like creativity and imagination expressed in our collections, we also like it in our day — fun can be found in every corner!”

“At Bobo Choses, our motto is Have Fun and we are aware that to enjoy ourselves in the future, we need to take care of the planet and its people,” says Adriana. All Bobo Choses clothes are made locally, working hand-in-hand with suppliers and manufacturers to help minimise their fashion footprint — in fact, the majority of production happens within 20 kilometres of the brand’s headquarters. Within the collection you’ll also find GOTS-certified organic cotton, which is grown without the use of fertilisers, among other conscious credentials, and recycled materials made from production offcuts and preloved clothes. “In addition, our partners adhere to OEKO-TEX certification and all our suppliers must accept our Code of Conduct,” she explains, “which requires fair labour and a safe working environment. This allows us to build a healthier supply chain, and although the challenges are great, we are committed to moving towards more sustainable and ethical practices.”

“At Bobo Choses, we believe that creativity can make the world a better place,” Adriana says when asked about what makes the brand stand out. “Each of our collections is born from a story where the characters are transported to the prints and patterns of each clothing.” The brand’s new collection is awash with warming autumnal tones of burgundy, ochre and olive, offset with bright pops of bubblegum pink, Klein blue and aquamarine to add that distinctive Bobo signature. Adriana also tells us that “some of the colours have a corrosive finish that gives them a vintage look that evokes childhood stories,” which we absolutely love. 

And, most importantly, Bobo Choses’ kidswear is made to be moved in. Shapes are oversized and fabrics are snuggly soft (and easy to wash), making them perfect for play. What’s more, each design can be worn and loved by both boys and girls; in Bobo’s world, there are no boundaries when it comes to style. And we couldn’t agree more!
