Celebrating 70 Years Of Childrensalon
Family, fun, heritage, heart: at Childrensalon, we have always been proud to do things a little differently. This month, as we look back over the last seven decades, we're sharing a series of very special projects with you, and would like to thank every one of you for your support. We wouldn’t be who we are today without our #childrensalonfamily of designers, friends, colleagues and customers (and their little ones, of course).
When our trailblazing founder Sybil Harriman first opened her new boutique The Children’s Salon in 1952, a childrenswear revolution was born. In 2022, as we turn 70, her pioneering spirit, commitment to personal service and desire to dress children beautifully continue to guide us into the future.
Here's To 70 Incredible Years
To bring the unique Childrensalon story to life for our 70th anniversary, we worked with director Rebecca Manley and producer Starling Film. Our short film tells a moving story of Childrensalon dressing children beautifully in a magical 40-second snapshot of five children’s lives.
The importance of family runs deep through every part of Childrensalon. From being a family-owned business ourselves to inspiring and supporting generations of families around the world, we invite you, the viewer, to share in our feeling of “family” through this film. “It feels as if we’re talking to an old family friend or a grandparent, but then it becomes obvious that we’re talking to Childrensalon,” says Rebecca. "That was the key element for me. I wanted to show each child almost growing up, but they're different children, in their different stages, wearing different types of childrenswear, from classic heritage and sportswear to beautiful party dresses and everyday clothing too."
Our founder, Sybil, and her entrepreneurial vision continue to inspire everything we do today and we wanted to bring that to life through this project in a creative and innovative way. “I really liked the idea of the heritage of the business,” says Rebecca. “The fact that it was set up by a woman – that grabbed my attention in the first place.”

The film, which features its young, talented cast (Molly, Raphael, Milan, Taspa and Anaïs) wearing clothing from the AW22 collections of Balmain, Stella McCartney Kids, Chloé, Burberry and more, nods to the Childrensalon story in playful, childlike ways using fanciful props.
“I thought about the journey that Sybil and her husband René must have made over to the UK [from Vienna], and I thought of a boat,” says Rebecca. “And you can pull something that moves! Working with children, I wanted to show them in a dynamic way; the clothes have to be shown in motion. [I wanted to] represent freshness and all the things that you associate with childhood and wholesomeness – but sparky at the same time and with bright colours.”
Whimsical and vibrant throughout, the film culminates in an imaginary 70th-birthday party, complete with make-believe pink lemonade and cake, and is accompanied by a campaign photoshoot, styled by the Childrensalon team and photographed by Damian Weillers.
