In the Spotlight | Smart Coats & Outfits to Match
Outerwear season has arrived, and the calendar is starting to fill up with invitations and exciting plans. A trip to the theatre here, a party or two there, ice skating under twinkling fairy lights and a winter walk in between. There's so much to do and see; it really is the most wonderful (and busy) time of the year.
We’ve put some of our most beautiful coats in the spotlight and styled them for the outing. And if you need some outfit ideas too, we’ve got plenty of inspiration, from dresses and sweaters to the finishing touches. So, wherever their plans take them this winter, they are sure to look their very best.
Curtains Up
Off to the theatre? There’s nothing quite like getting dressed up for a trip to see their favourite performance, and they’ll want a coat that’s just as special as the outfit underneath to keep them wrapped up until the cloakroom. Beatrice & George delivers with its traditional navy buttoned design. Luxurious material with a touch of wool promises warmth, whilst neat pleats and a perfectly placed velvet trim on the collar and buttons finish off the look. To match, we couldn’t think of a more fitting pairing than this exclusive Beatrice & George velvet dress and accessories bedecked with bows, because you can never have too many.
And for him, this double-breasted Patachou coat with its smart velvet collar is sure to make an entrance. Styled with a crisp white shirt, trousers from Burberry and some classic black shoes, they'll feel like the stars of the show in this ensemble. Encore!

If you’ve got tickets to see The Nutcracker this winter, Spanish designer Ancar's princess-cut coat is fit for the starring role. It comes in this dreamy shade of ballet-shoe blush and is trimmed with soft velvet on the collar, pockets and buttons. For your youngest prima ballerinas, the smaller sizes even come with a matching bonnet. Again, soft wool promises to keep her warm from the front door to the stage door, and when paired with sparkly ballet flats and Romano’s lace overlay dress, she'll be sure to take centre stage.
Style On Ice
One of our favourite activities at this time of year is ice skating. Whether they’re practising their triple axel or holding onto the sides like us, a picture-perfect outfit (especially a warm coat) is key. This Romano coat will make sure he stays warm and looks his best on the ice. It comes with a detachable faux-fur trim for extra warmth, and is finished with enamelled crest buttons and a soft satin lining. We’ve teamed it with Gucci’s preppy check trousers and some neat brogue boots for when the skates come off.
And for her, the gathered skirt of this hooded Le Chic trench coat makes it ideal for twirling, while the luxurious satin lining is sure to keep them warm on and off the rink. Plus, the sweet ruffles on the back and gold zipper will glisten under any fairy lights. Just add some thick woollen tights and these snuggly Hucklebones London earmuffs and the cold will have no chance of creeping in to ruin the fun.
A Season of Events
Nothing beats getting ready for an event you’ve been looking forward to; that special birthday that's been marked on the calendar for months. The gift is wrapped, and the outfit has been oh-so carefully chosen. Now all that’s left to do is get there! There’s nothing worse than covering up your best partywear, but sometimes the weather has other plans. He’ll feel dressed to impress in Burberry’s padded coat lined with the brand’s classic check, and underneath, a cool Lacoste zip-up top with contrasting green pocket. And to round off the outfit, some beige chinos and sturdy black boots.
Miranda’s cape coat is the ideal plus-one for any winter outing, and it’s just as beautifully designed as the dress it conceals — we’re particularly fond of this Lapin House checked design with its golden embossed buttons. The coat’s flowy shape and handy pockets make it just as practical as it is pretty, and the big hood is great for extra coverage on a blustery walk, and to protect that beautifully coiffed hair!
