CHILDRENSALON'S GUIDE TO . . .

Our Pick of the Best Gifts for Newborns

Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of life’s most precious moments, and when the time comes to meet the little arrival, it's traditional to mark the occasion with a thoughtful gift. Our collection is filled with toys, keepsakes, clothes and more newborn gifts that will delight parents and their bundle of joy.

With so many beautiful designs to choose from, finding the perfect present can be tricky. That’s where our very own Childrensalon team comes in! We’re joined by mum to Milena, Margo, nanny to Archer, Wendy, and auntie to Felix, Claire, who have shared their favourite picks for a newborn, plus tips on choosing gifts that Mum and Dad will find useful too.

Margo's Baby Picks

“There’s no such thing as too many muslins. I use them for pretty much everything!”

Mum’s the Word

Margo, Fashion Stylist and Mummy to Milena

“As a new mummy to my baby Milena, practicality was a top priority when compiling my gift list. It’s hard to know exactly what (and what not) to buy as a new parent, especially when there’s so much on offer, so you rely on advice from friends and family who’ve been there and done it. They all told me I’d need plenty of muslins, and they weren’t wrong! I use these ones from Jamiks to wipe up pretty much all of Milly’s spills, and I’ll split the multipack between the nursery and a changing bag so I’m always covered. Tartine et Chocolat’s sleeping bag has also saved us a lot of stress with her sleep routine. Not only is the padded cotton jersey dreamily soft, but the side zip is easy to unfasten, making it ideal for night feeds.

In the daytime, we love taking Milly out for a stroll, especially if the weather’s nice. And when the sun’s got its hat on, this sweet style by Elodie keeps her face shaded. Another must-pack for our pram is NaturaPura’s blanket. It’s made from organic cotton, which is soft and breathable, but the cosy fleece texture means it’ll be great for winter walks too — versatility is key for me, and this ticks both boxes perfectly!"

Wendy's Baby Picks

"Every baby needs a special toy, and I wanted to buy Archer one he could use early on."

Nanny Knows Best

Wendy, Visual Merchandising Manager and Nanny to Archer

“Working with so many beautiful products made buying gifts for my grandson, Archer, trickier than I thought. I tried to think back to when I became a mum and what I found not just cute (because everything is) but useful too. I’d used gowns to help with night-time nappy changes as poppers can be tricky in dim lighting, so I chose the Kissy Kissy converter gown to help Mum and Dad out. I also knew the Pima cotton would be soft against Archer's delicate skin. He was very small when he was born, so I also chose the aden + anais swaddle cloths to give him the feeling of a lovely, secure cuddle when he's in his crib and Mummy's not around.

Now, every baby needs a special toy, and I wanted to buy Archer one he could use early on. I love teddy bears so, combined with a soft velour comforter, this Emile et Rose doudou will be a lovely sensory experience when his little hands are ready to reach out for it. And when it comes to his outfits, comfort is always at the forefront of my mind. That’s why I chose the Monnalisa cotton jersey babygrow with its sweet collar. We’re also a family of Disney fans, so the Dumbo print made it a perfect choice."

Claire's Baby Picks

“Whilst I managed to tick off the necessities, I wanted my other gifts to have an element of surprise and sentimentality.”

Fun-Auntie Points

Claire, Senior Content Manager and Auntie to Felix

“I have two gorgeous nephews: Jasper, who’s entered the not-so-terrible twos, and the newest addition to our family, Jasper’s baby brother, Felix. Having two boys meant that my sister had a lot of the essentials covered already, which made choosing a unique gift a little more difficult. Luckily, she is the most organised person I know, so I received a full spreadsheet — colour coded and broken down into tabs — listing everything they needed. I ticked off a few of the necessities, like muslins and babygrows, but I wanted my other gifts to have an element of surprise and sentimentality.

Working at Childrensalon means that I’m surrounded by beautiful baby products, so it’s hard to resist buying absolutely everything. One of my favourite designers at the moment is Atelier Choux. The swaddles are lightweight and soft, and the illustrations are simply stunning, plus the gift boxes are really rather special. I also couldn’t resist buying the Bonpoint Days of the Week bib set — practical and cute! — and Sophie la Girafe’s teething toy. Of course, I didn’t want to turn up to meet Felix without bringing something for Jasper too. It’s a big transition going from being an only child to having to share the attention with a new sibling, so I bought him the Fuddlewuddle Lion toy from Jellycat as a surprise, which was also a great distraction when Mum needed a little break. And the award for Best Auntie goes to . . . "
