What is a baby snowsuit?

A baby snowsuit is, essentially, an all-in-one coat, designed to keep your baby toasty warm in the coldest conditions. These cosy designs are worn over their outfit as a final layer before heading outdoors and are softly padded with either natural down or synthetic insulation. Features also include enclosed feet, removable mittens, and hoods to keep the cold out where it belongs.

Your baby can wear a snowsuit from birth, so long as it's a good fit: the neck opening should be well-fitted enough that your baby can't wiggle their head through the hole. It's also a good idea to check the thickness of your baby's snowsuit from season to season to make sure they're not too warm or too cold.

How to choose the right snowsuit for your baby

When shopping for your baby's snowsuit, there are a few factors you may want to consider:

1) Where will you baby be wearing their snowsuit?

Your little one will have different needs, depending on whether you're heading to the slopes or for a wintry stroll in the park. For the coldest outings, look for heavier-weight designs with weatherproof fabric on the outside and down padding on the inside, and fully covered feet. For those everyday outings, opt for a less bulky design with a breathable cotton outer and without boots or mittens.

2) What features are non-negotiable?

Our designer snowsuits come with lots of different features, so it's good to consider what are musts on your tick list. If versatility ranks highly, then look out for Pilguni's clever 2-in-1 designs. These converter snowsuits come with fastenings between the legs which allow you to easily transform them into a cosy snow bag. And if your family is a regular on the slopes, you may want to go all out with technical features galore: taped seams for maximum protection in the snow, patented weatherproof fabric coatings, certified thermal insulation and more.

3) What's your baby's snowsuit style?

In addition to the technical features and quality fabrics on offer, our collection is also packed with lots of beautiful designs for you to choose from. Moncler Enfant and Canada Goose are perfect for slopeside style, and if you're after something a bit cooler and cutesier, then Bonpoint and Töastie will have you covered. From adorable prints and fun pops of colour to sweet details like faux fur-lined hoods and animal-ear detailing, your little one will look super cute while being as cosy as can be.

Most importantly, are snowsuits safe?

Babies can overheat very quickly, and a snowsuit should only ever be worn outside. The handy full-length zippers and fastenings on our baby snowsuits allow you to get your baby out quickly and easily when you head indoors. In terms of fit, make sure the suit is nice and snug to the contours of their body. You want to avoid any excess material, especially around your baby’s face, and minimal wiggle room so that they can’t slip down inside the snowsuit.

It’s also really important to remove your baby’s snowsuit before placing them in their car seat or in their carrier or sling — the thick, padded nature of a snowsuit means that your baby won’t be adequately, safely or comfortably secured in position.
